House three trees

The Three Trees house is a study for a contemporary closed courtyard, with three wind-protected yards, a tree growing in each.

Three building line the courtyards: a wood framed main building and masonry in the side and garage buildings.

Life in the house follows the cycle of the day, from protected mornings in the interior courtyard to sunsets on the Kempeleenlahti bay.

Wooden pathways have been built to connect and surround the buildings.

Luminaires are sunken in dark recesses in the ceilings.

The interior of the house repeats three elements: oak, glass and white or grey painted surfaces.

Steel sided stairs divide the open space on the first floor.

Nest to the stairs are the bedrooms.

Wooden surfaces in the sauna are of alder, the floors and washrooms are clad in ceramic tiles.

The house is heated ecologically with geothermal heat and the large, heatable glass surfaces have a high insulation capapcity.

Already in the building phase a sunken in part above the kitchen counter was made for the piece by the artist Markku Kolehmainen. The piece was
executed on site.

A leit motif of the kitchen was enjoying time together. The whole family has room to gather around the rectangular central kitchen counter.
